While many layers of fencing gear are made of fabric, the chest protector serves as a rigid shield for vital protection during a bout:

• Hard Plastic Shielding: Unlike the softer fabric layers in a fencer's uniform, the chest protector is made of hard plastic. This rigid construction ensures maximum protection against direct impacts from a fencing blade.

• Secure Fit with Straps and Hooks: The chest protector features back straps fitted with hooks. These allow the fencer to put it on easily and fasten it securely so it stays in place during movement.
